Sask Oil and Alberta Petroleum
Canada is not just a country that has beautiful landscapes and dynamic golf courses; it is a country rich in underground reservoirs. Canada is a country that is rich in global oil reserves and is ranked as world’s second largest producer of oil, after Saudi Arabia. It is said to be the third largest producer of natural gas in the world. Moreover, Canada ranks as number 5 in the list of largest energy produces all over the globe, and produces crude oil in abundance which makes Canada rank as number seven in the list of crude oil producing countries.
Canada’s energy production has almost doubled since 1980. An incredible 176 billion barrels of oil reserves make Canada a strong country in natural resources. From this total, 170 billion barrels are recovered from oil sands whereas six billion barrels of oil reserves can be obtained from the sources other than oil sands. The main oil industries for obtaining oil reserves from other than oil sands are Alberta Oil Industry, Saskatchewan Oil Industry and Newfoundland and Labrador Oil Industry.
The petroleum industry in Canada is growing day by day and is generally referred to as the Canadian Oil Patch. Every year new wells for the search of petroleum are being continuously drilled in Canada. According to the statistics, in the year 2005, more than 25,000 wells were drilled in Canada for oil. In Alberta alone, more than 100 wells were dug (drilled) for petroleum in 2005. This makes Alberta Oil Industry a very important one in the economical growth of the country.
